Benefits of Couples Massage
A study reported by the Journal of Bodywork and Movement Therapies discovered that fathers who massaged their pregnant wives experienced lower anxiety levels while improving marital adjustment. As part of the study, twenty-eight women were selected from various prenatal classes and randomly assigned to receive massage and breathwork coaching from their partners. Mothers reported an overall decrease in depressed mood, pain, and anxiety. The massaged mothers also experienced significantly reduced overall labor time, shorter hospital stays, and less occurrences of postpartum depression.
